Dry Skin - 5 Natural Moisturizers

Michael Carrubba • November 7, 2019

Colder weather and pollution can take a toll on your skin. Here are 5 simple remedies that can help keep your face, hands and skin looking hydrated, fresh and clean.

Now that cold weather is approaching, yearly dry skin issues have become more visible once again. Throw in a little pollution and you have the perfect scenario for that uncomfortable stretch of the skin when you look in the mirror after washing your face and smile or when you step outside of the shower. That irritating and unattractive dry flaky skin!

Well we might have some age-old and time tested relief and remedies that are inexpensive, simple and natural. You are going to love how your skin feels.

First, be sure you are using a soap that not only cleans but moisturizes your skin with more than one oil. Our “ smooth” facial soap uses three oils AND goats milk, the perfect anti drying and flaky skin bar!

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil might seem too oily but it has been proven to be an effective natural moisturizer. If you feel that the oiliness is too much during the day, apply it to your skin at night at bedtime.

The best way to use it is to gently apply it to your skin, arms and face. It is important that you do this regularly. Try also massaging it in after taking a shower. Do not wipe your skin dry but rather pat with a towel.

2. Ghee

Ghee is an amazing natural skin moisturizer. How do you use it? Take liquid ghee and apply it to face, arms etc. every night before going to bed. Like coconut oil, you can also apply ghee onto your skin right after a shower and pat drying rather than wiping.

3. Aloe Vera with Coconut Oil

Aloe vera gel, has not always been the moisturizer of choice when treating dry skin but mixing it with coconut oil can produce amazing results. Simply take 1 cup of aloe vera, preferably squeezed from a fresh plant stalk, and add ¼ cup of coconut oil. Mix the two ingredients thoroughly and apply to dry skin. The aloe vera will help to reduce dry areas while the coconut oil will moisturize and nourish.

4. Milk

Yes milk. Milk is very moisturizing by nature and makes an effective remedy for dry skin. It is soothing, hydrating and easy to use. Milk can be applied several times on the face per day. Take a cotton ball and gently dab your skin. The milk absorbs in minutes. As with all methods, regularity is key.

5. Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly is about as common in most households as well milk. Apart from its amazing moisturizing benefits, it also creates a barrier on the skin protecting it from dirt and grime.

Petroleum jelly can be used each morning by applying after you shower to affected skin areas. You can apply it several times per day if your skin is flaky or irritated.

These are five simple and practical ways to treat your skin in the next few months. Aside from these, there are some amazing products on the market but before you spend a lot of money and might not get the results you expected, give these a try.
